A number of light box products are available in the market that claims to assist in seasonal affective disorder. However, all light boxes may not meet the requirements needed to treat SAD. Do dawn simulators help SAD sufferers?

For people suffering from seasonal affective disorder, any form of light therapy may prove to be advantageous. Due to the bright light therapy having a few drawbacks, researchers began devising other forms of treatment that included use of light in a different more potent way.

Another form of treatment apart from the more common bright light one to treat seasonal affective disorder is the use of dawn simulators. It basically involves setting the timings so that the light comes on automatically form about half and hour to two hours before you wake up.

Recall that seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, is a form of mood disorder in which people become depressed during the winter months, when there are fewest hours of daylight. Their moods then brighten in summer months, when there is more daylight each day. What are the Symptoms of SAD?

SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder is a kind of depression usually influenced by seasons. It is a subtype of major depressive disorder.
These could be of two types – winter onset and summer onset. Winter onset is the most common one among the two. It begins in late fall and ends with the advent of summer. On the other hand summer onset begins in late spring or early summer and wards off by the beginning of winter.
